Today there is no long transfer waiting for you. Erg Chebbi stays close throughout the day, giving you time to see what exists beyond the usual roadside view of Merzouga.
Morning — 4x4 Around the Desert
After breakfast, begin a 4x4 exploration around the landscapes surrounding Erg Chebbi.
The exact route can vary according to weather, track conditions and the season. That flexibility is part of the experience: some days the desert roads are firm and easy, while at other times wind and sand reshape the route.
Khamlia and Gnawa Traditions
One of the possible stops is Khamlia, a village closely associated with Gnawa musical traditions.
When musicians are available, there is time to listen to local rhythms and learn a little about the musical heritage connected with the community rather than simply treating the stop as a performance for tourists.
Remote Landscapes Around Mefis
From Khamlia, continue into quieter landscapes around Mefis, an area marked by open desert views and traces of former mining activity.
The atmosphere here is very different from Merzouga town. Roads disappear into broad plains and Erg Chebbi remains visible in the distance.
Nomadic Life Around the Sahara
When a visit is appropriate and has been arranged locally, there may also be an opportunity to meet nomadic families living in the desert region.
These encounters depend entirely on availability and local circumstances. They are approached respectfully and are never presented as guaranteed attractions.
Afternoon — The Road Ends, the Dunes Begin
Later in the day, return toward Merzouga and prepare a small bag for the night.
Meet the camel team and begin your Morocco camel ride across Erg Chebbi.
The rhythm changes immediately. The 4x4 tracks disappear behind you and the caravan moves slowly between the dunes.
When conditions are suitable, stop on the sand for sunset. Sandboarding may also be available on a nearby dune.
Night — Desert Camp
Continue toward your camp and settle into your private tent.
Depending on the package selected, you can stay in a comfortable camp or choose an upgraded luxury desert camp.
Dinner is served in the evening. When organized by the camp, traditional drums and music may follow around the fire.
Later, step away from the main camp area and the silence becomes much more noticeable. This is often the moment when the Sahara feels furthest from the towns and roads crossed during the previous day.
Driving distance: approximately 57 km during the desert circuit
Driving time: approximately 1 hr 15 min in total, excluding visits and stops.
