4 Days from Casablanca to Marrakech Through the Sahara

Four days is a short amount of time for Morocco, so the route needs to have a clear direction. This itinerary starts beside the Atlantic in Casablanca, moves through Rabat and Fes, reaches the Sahara at Merzouga and finishes on the other side of the High Atlas in Marrakech.

This 4 days Morocco itinerary from Casablanca is designed for travelers who want to include the desert while moving from Casablanca to Marrakech rather than returning along the same road.

The first day connects three very different cities. Casablanca introduces the journey with the Hassan II Mosque, Rabat adds some of Morocco’s major historical landmarks, and the day finishes in Fes.

The landscape changes completely on Day 2. Ifrane and the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas give way to drier plateaus and the palm-filled Ziz Valley before the Erg Chebbi dunes appear near Merzouga.

Here the vehicle is left behind for a Morocco camel ride across part of the dunes. When weather and arrival time allow, there is time to enjoy sunset before continuing to the desert camp.

The route then turns west through Rissani, Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley before reaching Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou.

Ait Ben Haddou is often searched online as the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, although it is more accurately described as a fortified ksar built with traditional earthen architecture.

The final stage crosses the High Atlas Mountains and reaches Marrakech, completing a compact 4 day tour from Casablanca to Marrakech through cities, mountains, valleys and the Sahara.

Day by day

Your itinerary

  1. Atlantic architecture, the Moroccan capital and the old imperial city of Fes all fit into the first day of the route.

Pickup can be arranged from Mohammed V International Airport, your hotel or another agreed location in Casablanca.

When your arrival time and visiting hours allow, the first important stop is the Hassan II Mosque, one of Casablanca’s most recognizable landmarks and dramatically positioned beside the Atlantic Ocean.

There is time to see the mosque and its surroundings before leaving Casablanca for Rabat.

In Morocco’s capital, the itinerary can include Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V.

The historical importance of Rabat extends beyond individual monuments. Its modern and historic quarters form a UNESCO World Heritage property, which you can read about on the UNESCO Rabat page.

After the Rabat visit and lunch along the route, continue toward Fes.

Arrival is expected later in the day. Check into your riad and enjoy the evening in the city at your own pace.

Because this is a compact four-day itinerary, Day 1 does not include a complete guided sightseeing tour of Fes. Travelers who want a full medina tour should consider adding another day.

Approximate driving distance: around 330 km.
Driving time: approximately 4–5 hours excluding visits, meals and traffic.

The moments that define this journey

This journey is designed as a private Morocco experience, not a shared group circuit. Your vehicle, driver and daily rhythm remain dedicated to your party from Casablanca to Marrakech.

That private format makes a real difference on a four-day route. Scenic stops can be adjusted around the light, short breaks can be added when needed, and the journey does not depend on collecting other travelers or following a fixed coach schedule.

The route brings together several of Morocco’s most contrasting landscapes in a short time: the Atlantic coast, imperial landmarks, cedar forests, the Ziz Valley, Erg Chebbi dunes, Todra Gorge, the Dades Valley and the High Atlas.

Merzouga is treated as one of the highlights of the journey rather than a simple overnight stop. A private camel ride in Erg Chebbi leads toward the desert camp, with time for sunset when conditions allow and a quieter evening away from the main roads.

For travelers looking for a more refined Sahara stay, an upgraded luxury desert camp in Merzouga can be arranged with a private tent and enhanced comfort according to the category selected.

The experience continues beyond the desert. Walking beneath the cliffs of Todra, crossing the dramatic Dades landscapes and exploring Ait Ben Haddou add very different moments before the final crossing of the High Atlas toward Marrakech.

Another advantage is the route itself. Instead of returning to Casablanca or repeating the same roads, the journey follows a natural direction from Casablanca to Marrakech, making every day part of the progression through Morocco.

Pickup and final drop-off are arranged directly from your hotel, riad, airport or another agreed accessible point, helping the journey feel seamless from beginning to end.

If you want additional time in Fes, a higher accommodation category or a more exclusive desert setup, the itinerary can be adapted through our Customize Your Morocco Tour service.
